“Have great tenderness in all things."

The Sisters of Mercy opened McAuley Hall Health Care Center on August 28, 1966 for the sisters who needed a place to live when they either became ill or retired from their ministry. Named after Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy, the facility initially housed 23 residents and employed 10 staff members.
The vision of McAuley Hall was to be "the vestibule of heaven . . . the first taste of eternity" for those who committed their lives to the call of the Gospel as a Sister of Mercy. In the early 1990’s it became clear that McAuley Hall must become a licensed nursing facility to remain financially viable. After much soul searching a series of renovations were completed that permitted the facility to apply for and receive certification by the NJ Department of Health. In October 1994 the State Inspection Team completed the final inspection tour and found McAuley Hall was a “model facility”. The result was a revitalized home for the Sisters of Mercy and a nursing facility eligible to receive Medicaid and Medicare funding for the care it provides. McAuley Hall Health Care Center is currently a 74 bed mercy sponsored nursing facility with a full array of services for both the Sisters of Mercy, members of Religious Communities and Lay Persons. |
